Huzzah!

My paper was accepted into the AAP conference, to be held in Melbourne in July. Considering I whipped up the abstract in less than a day this is pretty good! Now I just have to write the paper, heh. Fortunately it's mostly on what my PhD is on so I can borrow a lot from that.

In other news, I had a blood test today and now my arm hurts, kinda as if I hit my funny bone on my elbow. And my little brother graduates tomorrow, so my parents are here for dinner tonight, yay :D Congrats to you Lockie!

Ummmmm in other news I received a lovely card from one of my FFXI friends (thanks Amanda!) which was just wonderful, complete with a whole family of paper cranes inside! Another FFXI friend is coming to Australia some time in the next couple of months from England, so I hope I'll be able to show him around a bit! Well, at least show him Real Beer.

Work on my PhD is sort of slow at the moment. It's a bit frustrating because all the ideas are in me, they're just taking their sweet time to come out. Had a conference here a couple of weeks ago that was very interesting, with some awesome people taking their time out to listen to me ramble about some ideas that I've had for what to do After I'm Done. Heh. Must admit, I'm kinda sick of being poor, heh :( Student scholarships really aren't that great, even though they're tax free.

Anyway that's my update for today, off to a seminar soon!

All you have to do is

1. put a lot of relevant words onto PowerPoint slides (or Beamer slides or whatever), and

2. get a good night's sleep the night before, so that clever words will come out of your mouth when you stand up.

That's it! No need to "write a paper".

haha, really? That seems, uh, yeah, a little non-traditional?

Congrats! It will be great to see you in Melbourne again :)

Yeah! I was actually wondering if I could possibly crash at your place for the time I'm there? It's on the 6-11 July. If it's a bad time or something it's no problem, the Melbourne CAPPE people have offered couches to crash on, but it'd be nice to see you guys again regardless :) (and I want to get a muffin from that cafe again!)

Argghh! I meant to reply to this as soon as I checked with Bryn but of course I totally forgot and now he has already told you, but of course you can stay with us :) How is the paper coming along?

Hooray for visiting FFXI friends! I visited my ones in USA last year and had a blast, if you're good friends in game (and mature polite adults) then it's fun.

Yeah, I don't know this guy *so* well because he's on UK time but he's mature and friendly and, well, how evil can British guys be? ;)

I really wanna go visit my US friends though, but it's a bit of an intimidating thought! heh :)

psh don't feel intimidated! They are friendly like us, but can be very loud (personality wise) and obnoxious people. They love Aussies.

Oh do what I did if you go there, when they take you out to "Outback Steakhouse" for (un)authentic Aussie meals, offer to pay the bill in Aussie dollars, the waiter/resses were amazed and got all giddy seeing our monopoly money.

Haha, okay for you, you're not a girl! lol. Some guys can be kinda creepy IRL... >_>

I went to the outback steakhouse when I was in the US like 10+ years ago -- there were 50 of us from my all-girls school and they didn't believe we were Australian, haha :) The food was pretty bizarre too, especially the Bloomin' Onion! XD

Congratulations on the paper! Contrary to advice above, I think you should prepare in advance. (I know! Nuts (in at least two senses)!)

PS. Speaking of seeing people IRL, I am coming to Canberra the weekend after next! If you are around, we should consider, I guess, some activity that can be acted out in Canberra?

PPS. I think I inadvertently posted this as a reply to another comment! It was meant to be a new comment! Oh well.

Okay! I'm not sure what my movements are, so I'll keep in touch! :D
