While I was busy yesterday moving accounts around on machines in an attempt to decommission all of the Slowaris machines that I can find, while I was busy rescuing the observing software from a spontaneous breakage in the behaviour of the communication between 2 machines, while I was busy RTFS in an attempt to find which particular menu option allowed us to close the hartmann shutters (inadequate documentation combined with a new support astronomer combined with suboptimal software UI design), while I was busy documenting my own software, while I was busy researching how to fight with horrible closed source software like vmware and nvidia drivers, while I was busy unsuccesfully hacking that horrible open sourced snd_hda_intel driver to get my damned system beeps back (now that the world is going the way of snd_hda_intel, I forsee this problem becoming much more pervasive and annoying), while I was busy researching how to fight with an inhouse version control system and instrument control networking environment, I completely missed the fact that it was sysadmin appeciation day.

I want my hugs.

In other news, I've had too much coffee, and/or the adrenaline is too strong today.

The next FINAL FANTASY XI Version Update has been scheduled to take place in early September. The development team is currently hard at work to bring you the following, just to name a few items:

I don't even like the music to ToAU 44 anymore.

First attempt: Woo woo! We got Alex to 4% before timing out! But unlike last week's 2%, we weren't all dead at the end, so improvement?

Unfortunately that was the high point of the night.

Second attempt: BLU kicked our ass. Our borrowed RDM chainspell-nuked him to just over half dead, which meant we could melee the rest and the next two forms. That worked out well, until he did some 1000+ WS to our tank (not Eyes On Me, a WS). Then he turned around and did the same thing to me, 1K+ again. Everyone else quickly died.

Third attempt actually went worse. BLU kicked our asses and made us cry like girls.

What a mess. I have no idea what we're doing wrong, other than dying ("lol"). Not knowing what we're doing wrong, I have no clue how to fix it.

I'd like to see how the fight would go on a neutral day. We've always been stuck with Lightsdays and Darksdays so far.

Really, really frustrated.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 is far too much fun and taking far too much of my time. (At least it's a purchase I'm enjoying, I suppose . . .)

The weather's lovely. Sunny enough to be warm, windy enough to be cool. I hope it lasts.

I just tried to see if one of my favourite Snout songs "Love in Motion" has a clip on youtube. It's from the Idiot Box soundtrack, so I should have suspected it was a cover. Turns out the original is by Icehouse, from 198! And there's also a Chrissie Amphlett version!

I feel a bit foolish now. Oops. Snout is still my favourite version (I <3 Ross McLennan's bass and voice), but Amphlett's is also pretty cool. It's fun to discover all this history attached to the song. :)
